Chess Olympiad torch relay to reach Raipur on July 16

Raipur: As a part of celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 44th Chess Olympiad Torch Relay is being organized for the first time in the country starting from June 19 in different states of the country. Chess Grand Master Pravin Thipsay will bring Chess Olympiad torch to Raipur on July 16 and hand it over to chief minister Bhupesh Baghel in the main function to be organized at Pandit Deendayal Auditorium. To make this event a success, the Coordinator appointed by the Government of India, Gurucharan Singh Hora, General Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Olympic Association, took a meeting of the office bearers of all sports associations concerned including chess at the Olympic Association office on Wednesday.During the meeting a roadmap of all the events to be held starting from the arrival of torch relay to the main programme at Pandit Deendayal Auditorium was designed. Hora said the torch relay will reach Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur on July 16 at 8.40 am. Meanwhile, for the first time in the 95-year history of Chess Olympiad, India has been selected as host for the 44th Chess Olympiad. This event will be the biggest sporting event ever to be held in India. Participants from around 188 countries will participate in the Olympiad.The office bearers of Chhattisgarh Olympic Association and the officials of Chess Association Dr. Vishnu Kumar Srivastava and Sushant Paul were present in the meeting.
