Central Parliamentary Committee praised state-run Prayas Residential School

Raipur: Central Parliamentary Committee praised the works that are being done for Scheduled Castes and Tribes in Chhattisgarh, in the socio-economic and educational sector. Dr. Professor Kirit Premjibhai Solanki, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee, said that the Prayas Vidyalaya in the state is doing commendable work in the field of education for these classes as well as children of Naxal-affected families, it is commendable.

In the meeting, Dr. Neeraj Dangi, Jagannath Sarkar, Dr. V. Shivadasana, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Joint Secretary, D.R. Chandrasekhar and other officials were present.

In the review meeting, Dr. Professor Kirit Premjibhai Solanki congratulated the entire team of the police force while appreciating the measures being taken in the state under the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act (Atrocity Act). He said that the committee would recommend the works being done under the Act in Chhattisgarh to other states. It is worth noting that the Central Parliamentary Committee constituted to look after the Scheduled Castes and Tribes related matters is on a two -day visit to Chhattisgarh. The committee led by Dr. Professor Kirit Premjibhai Solanki, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee, visited the Prayas Residential Girls School in the capital Raipur on 15 January and reviewed the arrangement and educational activities of the school.

Chhattisgarh chief secretary Amitabh Jain informed that Eklavya Vidyalaya has been opened for the forest dwellers of the state. In most of the cases, the land provided for the school building in Scheduled areas is the forest land. Chief Secretary urged the committee to exempt the amount of diversion fee charged for establishment of Eklavya Vidyalaya in forest areas. The chairman of the Parliamentary Committee was happy to learn about the large number of government medical colleges in Chhattisgarh. The committee suggested exemption in the fees of children belonging to scheduled castes and tribes in the medical college. In the meeting, information about the schemes and activities operated in the state for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Tribes was presented through powerpoint presentation.

Director General of Police Ashok Juneja informed that dedicated cells have been constituted in the 27 districts of Chhattisgarh, to deal with the crimes against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under the leadership of Deputy Superintendents of Police is appointed. Similarly, special courts are also being operated in 11 districts of the state to review the cases. He said that this Act is also reviewed regularly under the chairmanship of the Collector at the district level.
