Central Govt Releases ₹244 Crore to Chhattisgarh for Cleanliness and Toilet Development in Villages

Raipur: The Central Government has released ₹244 crore to Chhattisgarh under the 15th Finance Commission Grant. The funds have been allocated to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) for improving sanitation and toilet facilities in villages.
According to official information, the amount has been distributed among the state’s 11,548 gram panchayats, 146 block panchayats, and 27 district panchayats.
Apart from Chhattisgarh, the Central Government has also allocated funds to Punjab and Uttarakhand. Punjab has received ₹225.17 crore, while Uttarakhand has been granted ₹93.96 crore.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation) recommend the release of these grants, which are disbursed by the Ministry of Finance in two installments each financial year.
Purpose of the Grant
These funds will be used for:
✅ Sanitation and maintenance of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status
✅ Household waste management and treatment
✅ Human waste and fecal sludge management
✅ Drinking water supply and rainwater harvesting
This initiative aims to strengthen sanitation infrastructure in rural areas and ensure sustainable cleanliness efforts across Chhattisgarh.
