Raipur
In a startling incident, a jawan of the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) unleashed gunfire from his service rifle just outside the Battalion near PHQ in Naya Raipur. Approximately 12 rounds were fired, sending shockwaves through the area. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.

Upon receiving the distressing information, officers from Rakhi Police Station swiftly mobilized to the scene to assess the situation.

The soldier behind the firing has been identified as Rakesh Yadav, hailing from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, and serving in the 14th Battalion of CAF. Yadav had been on duty in the battalion’s canteen, and upon completing his shift between 6 to 9 in the morning, he returned to the battalion, where the unexpected turn of events unfolded.

According to eyewitness accounts, Yadav, stationed in the camp, raised an alarm among his colleagues before commencing the firing spree.

Eyewitnesses further revealed that Yadav, after returning from duty, took a seat on a bench just outside the battalion premises. Suddenly, he began shouting and firing indiscriminately for approximately 10 minutes, alarming his fellow soldiers. The sound of gunfire prompted swift action, with fellow soldiers rushing to the scene to investigate the commotion.

Fortunately, a constable deployed within the camp demonstrated quick thinking and managed to divert the trajectory of Yadav’s firearm, potentially averting a catastrophic outcome. At the time of the incident, an estimated 50 to 60 soldiers were engaged in their daily routines, including tea and breakfast.

In response to the alarming situation, authorities have confiscated Yadav’s Insas rifle, and a thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway.
