BJP nominates Raja Devendra Pratap Singh as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Chhattisgarh

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled Raja Devendra Pratap Singh as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections representing Chhattisgarh, following the impending conclusion of Saroj Pandey’s tenure as the current Rajya Sabha MP from the state, set to expire in April.

Aged 49, Raja Devendra Pratap Singh boasts a distinguished lineage as the grandson of Maharaja Chakradhar Singh. Noteworthy is the annual cultural extravaganza, “Chakradhar Samaroh,” held in Raigarh to honor Maharaja Chakradhar Singh.

Having an extensive political background, Raja Devendra Pratap Singh has previously held pivotal roles within the BJP. His portfolio includes serving as the state secretary of the SC/ST Morcha in 2005-06, being a special invitee member in 2008, assuming the position of SC/ST Morcha district president in 2011-12, and holding the esteemed post of national executive member of the SC/ST Morcha of the BJP. Additionally, he has contributed significantly as a district panchayat member and a member of the railway advisory committee.

The Election Commission has slated the Rajya Sabha elections for 15 states, including Chhattisgarh, on February 27. Voting is scheduled to transpire from 9 am to 4 pm on this date, with the deadline for nominations fixed for February 15. Results of the elections are slated for announcement on the same day, February 27.
In Chhattisgarh, voting will center specifically around one Rajya Sabha seat, with expeditious declaration of results anticipated. The Election Commission will issue the notification for the elections on February 8, marking the commencement of the electoral process. The deadline for the scrutiny of nomination papers is February 16, while candidates retain the option to withdraw their names from the electoral contest until February 20.
