Senior BJP MLA and former minister Ajay Chandrakar and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel engaged in a verbal spat over the issue of infiltrators in Chhattisgarh, following the arrest of a Bangladeshi couple in Raipur on Saturday.
Ajay Chandrakar has blamed the Congress for such infiltrations across India and Chhattisgarh. Former CM Bhupesh Baghel has questioned the current BJP government’s actions regarding infiltration cases.
“The population balance has been disturbed across the country during the rule of Congress and Trinamool Congress. Assam and West Bengal are major states from where infiltration occurred. These infiltrators are now spreading across the country and living with forged documents,” Chandrakar said.
He added, “The administration must inform the public about who issued these documents and during whose tenure. Creating a population imbalance through infiltration is like a vote bank for the Congress; for them, it is not a matter of national security. Given the current governments in Bangladesh and Pakistan, infiltration is a major problem, but for Congress and Trinamool Congress, it is a vote bank. Therefore, their statements cannot be trusted; they can sell the country.”
Former CM Bhupesh Baghel responded to the Bangladeshi infiltration issue, stating,
“The BJP government has repeatedly made accusations about infiltration. The question is, how many Bangladeshis, how many Rohingyas, and how many Pakistanis are living in Chhattisgarh? The government has not yet provided an answer. I had also raised this question in the Assembly, but the government has not yet responded.”
The Bangladeshi couple arrested in Raipur had been living there for 16 years with the help of forged documents. They managed to evade suspicion from their neighbours by claiming to be from West Bengal. Police are investigating individuals, including a local councillor, who allegedly assisted in creating these fake documents. The couple reportedly told people they came to Raipur for work and frequently changed rental homes, using their previous address when moving to a new place.
