Bilaspur: Godhan NYAY Yojana empowering cattle rearers and strengthening rural economy

Bilaspur: The Chhattisgarh Government’s visionary move to implement the “Godhan NYAY Yojana” exemplifies its commitment to the well-being of cattle rearers. This strategic decision has proven to be highly beneficial, providing much-needed financial aid and opening doors to employment for them. Rural women have also played a pivotal role in this initiative by actively participating in various income-generating activities organized in Gauthans. The Gauthans established under the Suraji Gaon Yojana serve as the cornerstone for the prosperity and well-being of farmers and cattle rearers. Nearly 8,000 cattle rearers have earned over Rs 6.39 crore through the sale of cow dung so far. A total of 336 Gauthans have been established in rural areas of Bilaspur district. These Gauthans provide essential facilities including drinking water, fodder, and shelter for the cattle. The veterinary department ensures timely medical treatment and vaccination for ailing animals. Out of the 336 Gauthans, the Godhan NYAY Yojana is being implemented in 319 Gauthans, enabling registered livestock keepers to sell cow dung at a government-fixed rate of Rs 2 per Kg on a regular basis.

A total of 3,21,516 quintals of cow dung have been purchased under the scheme so far, with a payment of Rs 6 crore 39 lakh 76 thousand made to around 8,000 beneficiaries for the cow dung purchases. From the procured cow dung, 76,530 quintals of vermicompost, 16,503 quintals of super compost, and 393.40 quintals of super compost plus have been produced. Out of these, 58,413 quintals of vermicompost, 15,698 quintals of super compost, and 46.30 quintals of super compost plus have been sold. The sale of these fertilizers has generated revenue of Rs 3 crore 50 lakh 19 thousand for the Gauthan Samitis and Rs 2 crore 20 lakh 46 thousand for the women Self-Help Groups.
