Balod Health Dept. Clerks Arrested for Taking ₹30,000 Bribe

Raipur
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Raipur, on Thursday arrested two assistant grade clerks from the Chief Medical and Health Officer’s (CMHO) office, Balod district, Chhattisgarh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000. The accused, Yugal Kishore Sahu (Assistant Grade-2) and Surendra Kumar Sonkar (Assistant Grade-2), were caught red-handed while accepting the second instalment of the bribe.

The action followed a complaint filed by Mukesh Kumar Yadav, a driver posted in the CMHO office, Balod. Yadav had been demoted to the post of watchman at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Gurur. He subsequently challenged his demotion in the Honourable High Court, Bilaspur, and obtained a stay order, leading to his reinstatement as a driver.

Yadav approached the accused clerks at the CMHO office to verify his service book and calculate his arrears. Sahu and Sonkar allegedly demanded a total bribe of ₹50,000 (₹25,000 from each) to complete the process. They had already taken an advance of ₹20,000 from the complainant.

Since Yadav did not wish to pay the bribe, he lodged a complaint with the ACB. Following the verification of the complaint, the ACB laid a trap today, 16 October 2025.

The ACB team caught both accused, Yugal Kishore Sahu and Surendra Kumar Sonkar, while they were accepting the second instalment of ₹30,000 (₹15,000 from each) from the complainant. Both accused have been arrested and are being processed under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
