Authorities urge consumers to consume fortified rice without any doubt

Raipur: The State Government will distribute fortified rice (FRK) to beneficiaries under one of its ambitious PDS scheme from April 2023, with an aim to increase the nutritional value of rice which is being made available to the ration card holders.

Koriya District Food Officer provided information that the fortified rice (FRK) to be distributed is loaded with micronutrients like iron, folic acid, vitamin B-12, and several minerals that provide essential nourishment to the body and help prevent various diseases.

He added that in the preparation of fortified rice (FRK) of this kind, 99 per cent normal rice and 1 per cent fortified rice is used, which may have a slightly different color and shape than normal rice. The mixture of this obtained rice eliminates the deficiency of additional nutrients in the human body and increases the body’s immunity against diseases. However, due to lack of awareness in some areas, the mixed rice in fortified rice (FRK) is separated and the remaining rice is used for consumption.

The authorities concerned have urged that consumers should avoid any kind of confusion and consume this extra nutritious rice without any doubt for the benefit of their health.
