Assistant Engineer Caught Accepting ₹30,000 Bribe in Gariaband

Raipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Raipur arrested a Municipal Council Assistant Engineer in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 on Friday.
The accused, Sanjay Motwani, Assistant Engineer at the Gariaband Municipal Council, was caught red-handed while accepting the first instalment of the bribe money from a contractor.
The ACB had received a complaint from Ajay Gaikwad, a resident of Amalidih, Raipur, who works as a contractor. Gaikwad had carried out toilet repair work in various wards of the Gariaband Municipal Council. He was due a payment of ₹2.50 lakh for the construction work.
Motwani allegedly demanded 50% of the total bill amount (₹1.25 lakh) to process the payment. Gaikwad did not wish to pay the bribe and instead approached the ACB.
After verifying the complaint, the ACB organised a trap on Friday. The accused, Sanjay Motwani, was apprehended while accepting ₹30,000 as the first instalment of the bribe from the complainant.
The ACB arrested the accused and is taking further action under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018). Search operations at Motwani’s residential premises are currently underway.
