Abundant rainfall fills Chhattisgarh’s major reservoirs to near capacity

Raipur: The relentless downpour in Chhattisgarh over the past few days has brought significant relief as 12 major reservoirs in the state have filled up to 78.51 per cent of their total capacity. Additionally, 34 medium-sized reservoirs now hold an impressive 77.86 per cent of their combined capacity. These figures highlight the robust water management measures undertaken by the Water Resources Department of the state.

As per official data, some reservoirs have witnessed exceptional levels of water retention. The Maniyari reservoir in Mungeli district has reached its full capacity of 100 per cent. Similarly, reservoirs like Minimata-Bango in Korba, Tandula in Balod, Dudhwa in Kanker, Kharang in Bilaspur, and Sikaser in Gariaband have attained a water level of 80 per cent.

Continuing inflow from catchment areas has necessitated the controlled release of water from certain dams. Notably, Kharkhara in Balod, Chirpani in Kabirdham, Pipariya Nala in Rajnandgaon, and Khapri reservoir in Durg, categorized as medium reservoirs, are currently at their full capacity of 100 per cent. Furthermore, Gondli in Balod, Sutiyapat, and Karra Nala in Kabirdham, and Matiyamoti and Dhara in Rajnandgaon, along with several others, boast water levels exceeding 90 per cent.

The Water Resources Department has been closely monitoring the situation to ensure optimal utilization of the reservoirs and effective water management. With over 75 per cent water retention in Roose and Ghumaria of Rajnandgaon, Pendravan in Raipur, Kunwarpur in Surguja, Saroda in Kabirdham, Balar in Balodabazar, and Kedar in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh stands resilient against water scarcity concerns.
