A New Dawn for Education in Chhattisgarh: No School Left Without a Teacher

0080% Reduction in Single-Teacher Schools00

Raipur: Chhattisgarh has achieved a historic milestone in the field of education, setting a new benchmark under the visionary leadership and policies of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. Today, not a single school in the state—from primary to higher secondary—is without a teacher. The number of single-teacher schools has decreased by 80%.

This transformation has been made possible through the process of rationalisation, aimed at the equitable utilisation of educational resources, logical placement of teachers, and deployment based on school-specific needs, in line with the Right to Education Act and the spirit of the New Education Policy (NEP).

It is noteworthy that prior to rationalisation, the state had 453 schools without any teachers and 5,936 schools with only one teacher. This issue was especially severe in remote and sensitive districts like Sukma, Narayanpur, and Bijapur.

To resolve this disparity, the state government conducted a three-phase counselling process for teachers at the district, division, and state levels. As a result, every school in the state now has at least one teacher, and all high schools have been staffed with the minimum required number of teachers.

Praising the efforts to improve the academic framework through rationalisation, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated:

“We were determined that no child in Chhattisgarh should study without a teacher. Through rationalisation, we are not only upholding the Right to Education Act but also laying the foundation for a strong and equitable education system. This is not merely a transfer exercise; it is the restoration of justice in education.”

He further emphasised that improving the condition of single-teacher schools remains a top government priority, and in the coming months, additional teachers will be appointed in these schools through promotions and new recruitments.

The government is now focusing on the remaining 1,207 primary schools that still have only one teacher. A strategic plan has been devised to prioritise promotions of headmasters, teacher placements, and recruitment to address this issue.

Among the single-teacher primary schools in the state:

  • Bastar has 283
  • Bijapur has 250
  • Sukma has 186
  • Mohla-Manpur-Chowki has 124
  • Korba has 89
  • Balrampur has 94
  • Narayanpur has 64
  • Dhamtari has 37
  • Surajpur has 47
  • Dantewada has 11
  • Other districts collectively have just 22 such schools

These schools will soon be staffed with additional teachers as per requirement.

This initiative by the Chhattisgarh government aims to make education inclusive and ensure equal learning opportunities for every child. The entire process proves that rationalisation is not just an administrative exercise but a justice-driven educational reform—centred around every child, every village, and every school.
