Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal has called for making Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy mandatory across all academic streams to build a future-ready workforce. He made this suggestion during a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports held in New Delhi today.
The meeting focused on “Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Education and Strategies to Enhance Employability of Students.” Senior government officials attended and presented a detailed report.
Focus on Ethical Framework and Inclusion
The BJP MP stressed the need for an ethical AI framework and continuous teacher upskilling to keep pace with fast-changing technologies.
He said, “We must ensure that AI’s benefits reach the lowest rung of society. Our aim is not just to create a technically competent workforce but to build a system rooted in ethical values. Therefore, we have suggested that AI literacy be made compulsory for all students and available in regional languages to achieve the vision of a ‘developed India’.”
Key Recommendations
- Mandatory Curriculum: Make basic AI knowledge compulsory across all streams—arts, commerce, humanities, and engineering—to create a future-ready workforce.
- Regional Language Content: Provide AI learning materials in Indian regional languages to bridge the digital divide.
- Teacher Upskilling: Mandate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes for teachers in view of rapid AI advancements.
- Code of Conduct: Implement a strict AI Code of Conduct in educational institutions to prevent misuse of AI tools, especially in research.
- Infrastructure: Establish IndiaAI Data Labs and strengthen infrastructure in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to ensure rural and remote students receive equal access to AI education.
