Chhattisgarh High Court to get two news judges : Advocate A K Prasad and Advocate B D Guru nominated, approved by Supreme Court Collegium

The Supreme Court has given a go ahead for the appointment of two new judges to the Chhattisgarh High Court. Both new judges have been selected from the Bar quota. Advocates A.K. Prasad and B.D. Guru will be the new judges of the High Court. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has recommended their appointment to the President of India.
Chhattisgarh High Court Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha had sent the names of advocates from the Bar quota for the appointment of judges. However, it is not yet clear how many advocates’ names were sent in the panel.
The Collegium of the Supreme Court, including the Chief Justice of India and three senior justices, has recommended the appointment of two advocates sent by the High Court. Following the High Court’s recommendation, the Supreme Court collegium has finalized the names of Advocates A.K. Prasad and B.D. Guru.


The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has recommended the judges’ appointments to the President. Upon receiving approval, the central government will issue the appointment orders.


The Chhattisgarh High Court has 22 sanctioned positions for judges, but it does not have the capacity to accommodate all 22 judges. So far, the number of judges in the High Court has not reached 20. Four years ago, the total number of judges here reached 16, which was the highest number to date.
