High-profile seats and outcome RaipurChhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has won from the Patan constituency. He defeated the BJP candidate Vijay Baghel, a Member of Parliament from Durg Lok Sabha seat. In Kawardha, Congress candidate Minister Mohammad Akbar and Saja sitting MLA and minister Ravindra Chaube lost to their nearest BJP rivals. In Raipur South, Brijmohan Agrawal from the BJP and Arun Sao from Lormi have secured victories. Atal Shrivastav from Congress has won from Kota where he defeated Jashpur royal scion Prabal Pratap Singh Judeo in a triangle battle also involving Dr Renu Jogi, wife of first chief minister of Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi. Renuka Singh, union minister of state, from BJP was leading in Bharatpur-Sonahat (ST) seat.The BJP candidate Vijay Baghel was fielded against the Chief Minister from Patan, which became high-profile since then. Vijay Baghel is an MP from the BJP. Additionally, Bhupesh Baghel’s nephew is also involved, turning it into a contest between uncle and nephew.BJP candidate Brijmohan Agrawal secured victory with 67,000 votes.This seat witnessed a fierce battle between present BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal and Congress candidate Mahant Ramsundar Das. Agrawal is seen as a strong figure here. During the campaigns, Agrawal also faced an attack, making this seat highly contested.The BJP state president Arun Sao contested against Congress’ Thaneshwar Sahu, who secured the second position. Sagar Singh Bais from JCCJ, who was third in the previous election, is also contesting. Sao registered a convincing victory here.Kota seat was interesting due to triangular competition. Dr. Renu Jogi, a candidate from JCCJ in 2018, and currently contesting from JCCJ, added to the intrigue. However, Congress candidate Atal Shrivastav won the seat. Both Dr Renu Jogi, wife of former chief minister Ajit Jogi, and Jashpur royal scion Prabal Pratap Singh Judeo, suffered defeat.In the 13th round, BJP candidate Vijay Sharma defeated Mohammad Akbar. This seat became high-profile due to communal tensions before the elections. An incident related to hoisting religious flags two years ago escalated into a religious and political issue. After a clash between two groups, Section 144 was imposed in the city. BJP leader Vijay Sharma was arrested in this case and later became a candidate in the elections. The contest against Congress’ Mohammad Akbar made this seat intriguing.BJP candidate Ishwar Sahu defeated Congress minister and veteran leader Ravindra Choubey in Saja seat.A village in Biranpur, Saja, witnessed violent clashes between two groups on April 8, 2023, allegedly initiated among school children. The incident turned violent, resulting in communal violence, and the death of 22-year-old Bhuvaneshwar Sahu. Subsequently, BJP fielded Bhuvaneshwar’s father, Ishwar Sahu, in the electoral arena against Congress’ Minister Ravindra Chaubey.BJP’s union minister Renuka Singh won from Bharatpur-Sonhat (ST) seat. The sitting MLA Gulab Kamro from Congress lost the poll.BJP candidate and MP Gomti Sai defeated her nearest Congress rival. BJP fielded four MPs in the assembly elections, including Gomti Sai. Gomti Sai is contesting against Congress candidate Ramupakar Singh Thakur from Patthalgaon.
