Only one accused appears before Special Court of PMLA in coal levy case

Raipur Only one accused, Rajesh Choudhary, appeared in the Special Court of PMLA in Raipur on Wednesday in the coal levy scam involving Rs 540 crore. Earlier, the court had directed nine persons, including Congress MLAs Chandradev Rai and Devendra Yadav, to appear. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for December 6, 2023. In the Chhattisgarh coal levy scam case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has named several individuals as accused, including IAS officer Ranu Sahu, businessman Nikhil Chandrakar, MLA Devendra Yadav, MLA Chandradev Rai, Congress leader RP Singh, Vinod Tiwari, Roshan Singh, Piyush Sahu, Narayan Sahu, and Manish Upadhyay. Ranu Sahu and Nikhil Chandrakar were already in jail. The case pertains to the alleged illegal collection of a commission of Rs 25 per ton in coal transportation. The ED initiated an investigation into the Rs 540 crore coal levy scam in Chhattisgarh, which led to the arrest of several individuals, including IAS officer Sameer Vishnoi, Ranu Sahu, mineral officer Shiv Shankar Nag, Sandeep Nayak, businessman Suryakant Tiwari, Sunil Agrawal, Laxmikant Tiwari, Nikhil Chandrakar, Deepesh Tank, and Rajesh Choudhary, who are all currently in custody. The case involves allegations of illegal coal transportation commissions, and some Congress leaders and businessmen are also under the ED’s scrutiny. These individuals have been questioned, and documents have been seized from their homes. In a recent development, two Congress MLAs, Devendra Yadav and Chandradev Rai, were charged in the case, and the court has accepted the allegations against them.
