Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh calls for CBI probe into alleged irregularities in Civil Services Examination, writes to PM Modi

Raipur Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dr Raman Singh, who also serves as the National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has penned a two-page letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into what he alleges are irregularities in the selection process and evaluation of the Chhattisgarh State Civil Services Examination, conducted by the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC). Dr Singh’s letter highlights his concerns over the alleged prevalence of nepotism and favoritism in the CGPSC’s 2021 State Civil Services Examination results. He asserts that, for the first time, the top 18 positions in the examination have been occupied by Congress leaders, immediate relatives of CGPSC’s former chairman, and high-ranking officials. These individuals have not only secured these top positions but have also been selected for prestigious posts. The situation has sparked outrage among the youth of Chhattisgarh, who feel disheartened and frustrated by these developments. In response, former Home Minister and current Ramapur legislator Nanakiram Kanwar has taken legal action by filing a petition in the High Court. The High Court, recognizing the seriousness of the matter, has accepted the petition and directed the state government to put a halt to the appointment of the 18 candidates in question. Notably, five of these candidates had already been appointed, leading to the suspension of appointments for the remaining 13 individuals. Dr Singh has not limited his concerns to the 2021 examination alone. He alleges that irregularities have also surfaced in the evaluation and interview processes of the State Civil Services Examination in 2022. These irregularities include the granting of marks to candidates who did not provide answers, the selection of candidates with lower scores, and the rejection of those with higher scores. Furthermore, Dr Singh has criticized Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for dismissing the call for a CBI investigation, claiming that there are no complaints in this regard. Such a dismissal, according to Dr Singh, has eroded the trust of the state’s youth in the government’s commitment to a fair investigation. Consequently, he is demanding a thorough and impartial inquiry by the CBI to restore faith in the justice system for the youth of Chhattisgarh. This unfolding situation is expected to draw significant attention in the coming days as the demand for transparency and fairness in the state’s civil services examinations gains momentum.
