Raipur, May 23, 2023. The health department team that went to Australia under the leadership of Health Minister T.S. Singhdeo visited the Sydney University of Global Health today. The team took information about the trauma management course and public health services there. He also discussed the management of chronic diseases, infections, and immunological problems. The Sydney University of Global Health is Australia’s first medical school. The institution is ranked 19th worldwide and 2nd in Australia in the QS Subject Rankings for Academic Reputation. The Health Department team also visited the Public Health Institute run by the university.
Discussion on research and study with diabetes experts
Secretary of the Health Department Prasanna R., keeping in view the increasing number of diabetes patients in the state, discussed all the aspects related to it with the trained experts. He specifically discussed research and studies on this. To meet the growing need for diabetes care and the shortage of endocrinologists, the University of Sydney has teamed up with hospital doctors to create a new innovative model of nursing care in diabetes management. Through this model, nurses have been empowered to take care of diabetes patients. Sydney University of Global Health has also shown keen interest in developing a model for Chhattisgarh adapted to Chhattisgarh’s diabetes care management. Head of the Department of Endocrinology, Sydney Medical School, Prof. Stephen Twiggy, and Assistant Director, Prof. Margaret McGill, presented and discussed with the state team.
Sydney University shows interest in designing curricula according to the needs of Chhattisgarh.
The University of Sydney conducts various courses on various aspects of health care with a PhD. Human resources are being trained through courses in sleep medicine, pain management, genome studies, etc. to provide better facilities at a lower cost. Most of the training programmes are online and self-paced. Also, some physical training has been integrated into the curriculum. The University of Sydney has shown interest in identifying the need for skill upgradation among people working in the health sector in the state and designing appropriate courses in partnership with the Health Department and AYUSH University. Dr Shailendra Savleshwarkar, Director of Postgraduate Courses Programs at Sydney Medical School, made a presentation on this along with his team.

On trauma care management, Prof. During the discussion with Dr Kristin Bowles, the health department team discussed how to use technology for trauma care management in the state and upgrade the skills of existing human resources for trauma care management.
The Dean of the School of Public Health, Prof. Jamie Miranda, appreciated the initiatives of the state team to improve health services in Chhattisgarh. He expressed curiosity about the role of panchayats in achieving health indicators through Gram Panchayats. He also talked about cooperation on this subject in the future. Sydney University has also shown interest in setting up a Center of Excellence in Raipur.
The Health Minister and other team members also inquired about the health facilities available at the Sydney University of Global Health and the management of hospitals. During this, the Director of Health Services Bhim Singh, Director of National Health Mission Bhoskar Vilas Sandipan, State Nodal Officer Dr Kamlesh Jain, Assistant Director of Health Services at Sydney University Daniel Somers, and Assistant Director of Sydney Medical School Margaret McGill were also present.
