Chhattisgarh Government’s innovative initiative of “Bagless Day” is helping Gariyaband children uncover their hidden talents

Raipur: In a bid to reduce study pressure on children and let them explore the unexplored to help uncover their hidden talents, the Chhattisgarh Government has declared Saturdays as “Bagless Day” in all government schools.

As per the instructions of the state government, various fun-filled activities are being conducted on this day in the school for the holistic development of the children. In keeping with this spirit, various activities are being carried out on bagless days in all primary and secondary schools in Atarmara, Divna, Rajankatta, Kurud, Khatti, and Kumharmara falling under the Atarmara cluster center in Chhura block of Gariyaband district.

For the implementation of this scheme, under the able guidance of District Education Officer DS Chauhan, and District Mission Coordinator Shyam Chandrakar, various types of sports, educational, and intellectual activities are being conducted under the efficient leadership of Atarmara Cluster Incharge Principal B Dewangan and Cluster Coordinator Vinod Sinha.

Several fun activities like sports competitions, fancy dress competitions, debates, rangoli, painting, drama, story-telling, exercise demonstrations, cleanliness-related activities, dances, activity related to FLN are organized in schools every Saturday. The energetic teachers demonstrate yoga poses and proper exercise forms to the children and children also perform yoga and exercise, enjoying music played in the background. The innovative scheme of the government is bringing positive changes in the children here. Children are always active in sports and other activities.

There is 100 per cent attendance of children in the school on Saturday as compared to other academic days. School Management Committee members, parents, and local public representatives have also an important contribution to making these bagless days a success. Active participation in the community is seen in the school on Saturdays. Besides, they also give necessary suggestions to improve the activities.

In a bid to make the bagless day a success, the working plan for the next day is explained to the children one day before i.e. on Friday itself so that they can prepare themselves for the activities.

Government Primary School Divna remains in the headlines for its innovative works like kitchen gardening. Similarly, other activities including environmental work, cleanliness of the surroundings, community tree plantation, and fancy dress competitions are organized and games like chess, ludo, carrom, and rope race are played for the intellectual development of children. Daily newspaper reading is also done to make children more aware and knowledgeable.
