DGP–IG Conference Kicks Off in Naya Raipur: Amit Shah Inaugurates, PM Modi to Arrive Tonight

Raipur:
The annual Director General of Police (DGP) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Conference began on Friday in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh, with over 500 senior police and security officials in attendance. The high-profile meeting, considered crucial for formulating the nation’s internal security policy, was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The conference is taking place at the IIM campus in Naya Raipur. National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, along with over 500 officers, is participating in the meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Raipur tonight.
The three-day conference will feature 36 DGPs giving presentations across six sessions. Each state’s DGP will have up to one hour to present their respective state’s crime graph, crime pattern, and the strategies deployed to curb criminal activity.
Following the presentations, a list of common crime patterns will be compiled. The DGPs from all states will then hold a joint discussion to formulate a unified strategy to combat crime. Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, NSA Doval, along with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Chief and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Chief, will contribute their insights. Based on these discussions, a model policy will be developed and a model state will be selected.
Robust security measures are in place for the conference. Over 2,000 police personnel and specialised units have been deployed, including 38 senior IPS officers. These officers manage deployment in various sectors, oversee route control, and monitor VVIP movement.
Security relies on a three-tier surveillance system: ground deployment, aerial monitoring, and real-time route observation. Drones are being used for aerial surveillance of the conference venue and surrounding areas.
The agenda includes over 16 specific issues relevant to Chhattisgarh. Key topics include drugs, cyber fraud, Naxalism, and religious conversions. Officials from Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and West Bengal will also share their perspectives on these issues.
