BLOs to Begin House-to-House Voter Verification from Tuesday

Raipur:
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Chhattisgarh will enter its house-to-house verification phase from November 4, during which Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit homes to verify voter details and electoral photo identity cards (EPICs).
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Yashwant Kumar informed this at a press conference on Monday, explaining that the revision process, which began with printing and training work on October 28, will continue till the publication of the final electoral roll on February 7, 2026.
The CEO clarified that voters whose names were on the 2003 SIR electoral roll will not be required to submit documents, estimating that only 5–6 per cent of voters may need to provide fresh documentation.
He added that BLOs can seek assistance through the voter helpline number 1950 via a call request. The house-to-house enumeration will continue till December 4, followed by the publication of the draft roll on December 9, the claims and objections period from December 9 to January 8, the notice and hearing phase up to January 31, and the final publication on February 7.
Kumar said the current revision is based on the 2003 SIR roll, with BLOs having already verified 71 per cent of voters. Officials noted that shifting of residences and delimitation have affected the matching process, which is expected to improve by 10–15 per cent after the enumeration.
Around 50 per cent of voters in the state are women, and married women who changed their polling centres since 2003 will be included during the verification, potentially raising the matching rate to 94–95 per cent. Documents will be required only from unmatched voters.
The CEO said the Election Commission has made arrangements to assist voters through helpline 1950 and a BLO Call Request system. He appealed to all political parties to cooperate with the revision process and direct their Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to assist Election Commission staff in enrolling eligible voters and removing names of deceased or relocated persons.
