Civic body elections went off peacefully

Raipur:Voting in the civic body elections held on Monday in 15 civic bodies of the state went off peacefully barring sporadic incidents of heated exchange between major political groups. The voters exercised their franchise to seal the fate of 1393 candidates in fray for 385 wards of the state in ballot box.

According to Chhattisgarh Election Commission, over 70 per cent voting was recorded.  A verbal duel between BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar and some Congress workers were reported from few polling stations in Birgaon Municipal Corporation. 


According to State Election Commission, free and fair elections were reported from almost all civic bodies. Adequate force was deployed in the polling booths. Around 64.35 per cent voting was recorded in BirgaonMunicipal Corporation, 54.49 per cent in BhilaiMunicipal Corporation, 62.14 per cent in Municipal Corporation Risali, 64.17 per cent in Municipal Corporation Bhilai Charoda, 64.63 per cent in Municipal Council Shivpur Charcha, 73.10 per cent in Municipal Council Jamul, 77.64 per cent in Municipal Council Sarangarh, 69.24 per cent in Municipal Council Baikunthpur, 84.16 per cent in Municipal Council Khairagarh, 85.83 per cent in Nagar PanchayatPremnagar, 87.64 per cent in Nagar PanchayatNarharpur, 82.91 per cent in Nagar Panchayat Nagar Panchayat Konta, 80.61 per cent in Nagar PanchayatBhopalpatnam, 78.65 per cent Nagar PanchayatBhairamgarh and 78.56 per cent in Nagar PanchayatMaro till 5 pm. In 15 civic bodies, the highest turnout of 87.64 per cent was recorded in Nagar PanchayatNarharpur while the lowest was in Municipal Corporation Bhilai at 54.49 per cent. Around 64.85 per cent voting was recorded for by-polls in 15 wards. In by-polls, the highest turnout of 90.42 per cent was recorded in Ward 9 of Nagar PanchayatBhanupratappur while the lowest was in Ward 29 of Bilaspur Municipal Corporation at 52.38 per cent. The counting will take place on December 23.
