Work on PESA enters its final stage: T S Singhdeo

 

Raipur:Chhattisgarh Panchayat and Rural Development Minister T S Singhdeo held a meeting of the officials of his department on PESA (Panchayatiraj Extension in Scheduled Areas) from Delhi. According to information, the work of making rules for effective implementation of PESA (Panchayatiraj Extension in Scheduled Areas) in the state has entered its final stage. It is to be mentioned a series of meetings was addressed by Singhdeo and this series, the sixth meeting was held on Monday. The meeting lasted for five hours on virtual mode. 

Singhdeo said in the meeting that Chhattisgarh government is committed to the implementation of PESA which will play an important role in protecting the interests of the tribal society and ensuring their direct participation in the development of forest areas. This will not only preserve their culture, tradition, customs and traditional knowledge, but will also save water, forest and land along with other natural resources for their welfare. He said that PESA has been a sensitive subject for the people of the Scheduled Areas. He also directed to prepare rules for its effective implementation by including suggestions received from residents of scheduled areas, communities, public representatives and experts on tribal issues.

Singhdeo has been in constant discussion with various tribal societies, non-governmental organisations and individuals working for Panchayati Raj empowerment and forest rights for more than a year to implement PESA in the state. 

Singhdeo visited many development blocks of the state and discussed with the local residents of the scheduled areas and got their opinion and suggestions regarding PESA.
