Two projects of CG students selected in top 60 projects under “Responsible AI for Youth” programme of MeitY

Two agriculture based projects of Chhattisgarh have been selected in the top 60
projects of the country in the second phase of “Responsible AI for
Youth” programme organized by the Union Ministry of Electronics and
Information Technology.
These
projects include one to identify to detect diseases of crops and the other one
to identify the weeds grown in the seeds of crops by students of Government
Kuldeep Nigam Higher Secondary School, Narra in Mahasamund district. The
lecturer of this school, Subodh Kumar Tiwari virtually taught students
Artificial Intelligence techniques during the time of lockdown.
Student
Parmeshwari Yadav, daughter of farmer, has developed software with using
artificial intelligence technology to detect the diseases of paddy crops at the
right time and suggest remedial medicines for further treatment. This will help
farmers know about the diseases in early days so that the crops could be saved.
Similarly, two students including Vaibhav Devangan and Dheeraj Yadav have
developed software to identify weeds growing between crops using artificial
intelligence technology.
This
programme aims to empower youth to become ‘AI-ready’ and help reduce the AI
skill gap in India besides finding solutions to the problems of the society
using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
A
total of 52, 628 students from across the country registered for this
competition. In the first phase, 11, 466 students and 2,536 teachers took
training from 35 states of the country. The list of top 60 students was
released on the eve of Children’s Day in which two projects of Government
School Narra in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh state were selected.
In
the third phase of competition, the selected students will be given training
and their ideas will be molded into the working prototype. They will then be
interviewed online by an expert in Artificial Intelligence and the top 30 of
them will be declared as finalists after the completion of third stage. The
winners will be invited to showcase their projects at a special event to be
held in New Delhi.
