School students highlights concerns of children with disabilities, takes key positions under UNICEF’s #KidsTakeOver to mark World Children’s Day Week

Raipur: Sanjana Tandon,
Neha Rohini and Aryan Kumar, 12-year-old school children took over key
positions across the state to mark World Children’s Day Week under
#Kidstakeover – an initiative by UNICEF which provides a platform for children
from various aspects of life to aspire for greater heights and to promote child
rights.

Sanjana took over as
Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha Mission, Neha and Aryan Kumar as Additional
Superintendents of Police, and District Education Officer in
Gaurella-Pendra-Marwahi-district.

While chairing a meeting
with senior officials of Samgra Sikha Mission and children, Sanjana, a child
with a disability stressed the need for reforms in schools particularly for
many children like her. She also suggested a toll-free number and school
committee to address the concerns of children with disabilities. Speaking on
the occasion, Samagra Shiksha mission director Narendra Kumar Dugga assured
Sanjana that efforts will be made to make schools inclusive and
accessible. 

UNICEF Chhattisgarh
officer-in-charge Sweta Patnaik said the objective of World Children’s Day is
to make an annual signature ‘for children, by children moment around the world,
engage new audiences, raise awareness on children’s issues like violence
against children and the learning crisis.

More than 50 children
in Gaurella-Pendra-Marwahi district are taking over key official positions in
the district and block administration as part of the weeklong celebrations
titled ‘Bal Prasashak’. Namrata Gandhi, Collector said that occasions like #Kidstakeover
help us to reflect and recommit to upholding child rights and inspire a
generation of children to excel.

It also motivates
officers to better and strive harder for the wellbeing of children she added.
This year children will take over roles usually assigned to adults in the
media, politics, business, sports, music, and entertainment to raise awareness
on ending violence against children and continued learning. World Children’s
Day, November 20 is also the anniversary of the United Nations Convention of
Child Rights (UNCRC).
