Sant Kalicharan Maharaj arrested by Raipur police
Raipur:The police apprehended the sant from Khajuraho in the wee hours of Thursday.
Raipur police arrested Sant Kaicharan Maharaj in the wee hours of Thursday for his controversial statement during the two-day Dharma Sansand organised in the state capital on December 25 and 26. The police arrested the Sant from Bageshwar Dham in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The Sant was staying in a rented house here. Earlier, Kalicharan Maharaj was staying in Pallavi Guest House and he had released the video on his statement in Raipur saying he had no regret on abusing Mahatma Gandhi and ready to face even capital punishment.
It is noteworthy to mention, the Sant had abused Mahatma Gandhi accusing him of destroying the nation and at the same showered praises on Nathuram Godse for killing Mahatma Gandhi. After controversies erupted over his statement during the Dharma Sansad, the Sant left Raipur in a hurry. The Sant had not used his real name while leaving the Raipur. He used name Kaicharan Sarag during his travel, police sources said, adding it was the reason why it took more time to trace and arrest the Sant. One of the mobile numbers used by the Sant was traced to Khajuraho and this number was found switched off. Police reached the Pallavi Guest House on the basis of tower location where the Sant was earlier took shelter.
Cyber In-charge thana In-charge Girish Tiwari led the team in the operation. Instead of police uniform, police personnel reached the Sant’s place in civil uniform as devotees and searched for the Maharaj. In the process, police came to know about the whereabouts of the Sant and reached Jageshwar Dham to take the custody of the Sant. Even though Madhya Pradesh government raised strong objection over the modus operandi, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel gave a befitting reply to the MP government. Madhya Pradsh Home Minister Narottam Mishra had objected the arrest saying it was the attack on federalism of the state. Raipur police informed the relatives of Kalicharan Maharaj and his lawyers. It is said that the Sant will be produced in the court within 24 hours.
