Raipur. Today Health minister T S Singhdeo attended a joint virtual meet of USAID and NISHTHA-Jhpiego. In this meeting, representatives of USAID and NISHTHA-Jhpiego shared brief information about the Micro Resource Mapping and Cross-Sectoral Partnerships for Sustainable Healthy and Hygienic Behaviors work undergoing in Chhattisgarh. The Health Minister said that We are all facing a time like never before where the COVID-19 pandemic has spread over the world, and our country is reporting the third-largest number of cases. Like other states in India. Chhattisgarh has also been affected by this pandemic. However, we have been very responsive and quick in our efforts to manage COVID-19. As of today, 18501 patients are positive in our state, with an active caseload of 6730. With 11,739 people recovering from COVID-19, we have a recovery rate of 63%. The Chhattisgarh government is committed to protecting the health of our people and is striving hard to fight this pandemic.
Through the continuous efforts of the Health Department and with support from development partners like USAID- NISHTHA, we have successfully been able to contain COVID-19 through rigorous testing, physical distancing, contact tracing and systemic isolation of patients and persons suspected of COVID-19. However, the first primary defence against COVID remains basic hygiene practices like handwashing.
Health Minister T S Singhdeo added that Good hygiene is critical for preventing the spread of infectious diseases and helping children lead long, healthy lives. It also prevents them from missing school, resulting in better learning outcomes. Given this, the state government, in partnership with USAID-NISHTHA and Unilever, is taking a step towards building communities that inculcate healthy hygiene behaviour by rolling out the Model for Building Cross-Sectoral Partnerships for sustained Healthy Hygiene Behaviors in Chhattisgarh. He said that this model will benefit communities in 101 villages across two districts. People will benefit from the active mobilization of provisions available under various schemes of different departments/ministries.
He appreciated the efforts of USAID-NISHTHA and thanked them for collaborating with CG Government to roll out this need of the hour initiative as we all work together to fight this pandemic and build healthier communities.
