To implement Godhan Nyay Yojana in Chhattisgarh on mission mode, Chief Minister Mr Bhupesh Baghel has given instructions to constitute ‘Godhan Nyay Mission’. Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey will be the President, and Advisor to Chief Minister Pradeep Sharma will be the Vice President of the mission.
Godhan Nyay Yojana is being implemented from 2020 to promote animal husbandry and organic farming in the state. Under this scheme, cow dung is procured at Rs 2/kg from the cattle owners and farmers. Women self-help groups then utilize the procured cow dung to prepare organic manure in the Gothans established under Suraji Gaon Yojana. So far more than 50 lakh quintals of cow dung have been procured. Besides the production of compost, vermicompost, super compost and the manufacturing of many other items from cow dung, State Government has now made arrangements for electricity generation from dung procured. Recently, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has launched the project of power generation from cow dung. In the first phase, electricity production has been started in three Gothans of Raipur, Durg and Bemetara districts. Baghel has directed the officials concerned to implement this project in all the Gothans of the state. So far more than 10 thousand Gothans have been approved in the state. Out of these, more than 6 thousand Gothans have already been built and made operational. The entire system is being managed locally.
Chief Minister Baghel has said that to provide maximum benefits of the scheme to the dung vendors and collectors, it is important to operate the scheme with a commercial and scientific approach. Hence, the implementation of this scheme should be done on a mission mode, for which services of scientists, organizations having management and marketing expertise, NGOs, consultants of companies etc. should be taken.
