First batch of Chhattisgarhi students reach borders of Romania & Poland

Raipur:As central government gives momentum to its mission to bring back Indians stranded in war-stricken Ukraine safely, the first batch of students of Chhattisgarh had reached the border of Romania and Poland on its way to India last night. Due to the huge crowd at the checkpost, the students from Chhattisgarh had found it difficult to enter into the border. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy assured them of their safety and entry into the border.

Ganesh Mishra, nodal officer appointed by Chhattisgarh to help Chhattisgarh citizens out of trouble in Ukraine, said that he had received a call from Bhuvan Raikwar and Shrestha Nair of Chhattisgarh on Saturday morning. Bhuvan was at the check-post of Romania border during their conversation where as Shrestha was near the Poland border. They told Mishra that they have been brought here in batches of 15 each. They have no idea about how many children were from Chhattisgarh in these batches.

Due to the huge crowd on the border, they were facing difficulty to cross the border. They sought for help over the phone, according to Mishra. “We have informed the Ministry of External Affairs about the development. It has been said from the Indian Embassy, it was taking some time to complete the formalities. Soon everyone will cross the border. Once they crossed the border, everyone will be brought back to India through special aircraft. An Air India plane from Bucharest, Romania, had left a short while ago with the students who arrived earlier. Similar arrangements have been made in Poland and Hungary as well,” said Mishra while quoting the information furnished by the MEA.


Central government will bear full expenditure 

The Central Government is bearing the entire cost of the return of Indian students from Ukraine. Ganesh Mishra, the nodal officer of Chhattisgarh said that till now there is no demand for tickets for any flight. In such a situation which means expenditure is being borne by the Government of India. If the matter of expenditure arises, then arrangements will be made by sharing it with the government.

The Indian Embassy has issued fresh advisory

Indian Embassy in Kyiv said, Indian citizens are advised not to visit any border post without prior coordination with the Government of India officials on the helpline numbers set up at the border posts and emergency numbers of the Embassy of India, Kyiv. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the embassy to help Indian nationals cross the border posts without prior notice. Staying with food, water and basic amenities in Ukraine’s western cities is safer than going to border posts without being told.

People trapped in cities like Kharkiv, Kyiv are instructed to remain there

The Indian embassy has asked all the people living in the eastern region of Ukraine to remain at their current place of residence till further instructions. Stay calm and stay indoors or in shelters as much as possible. Whatever food, water and facilities are available try to manage with it and have patience. Avoid unnecessary movement. The embassy has also asked everyone to keep an eye on the information released by the embassy and keep themselves updated. Officials said Russian troops are on the streets in most of the eastern parts, including the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. In such a situation, getting out from there has become very dangerous.


NACHA collects details of 1500 children

It is learnt that NACHA, an organization of migrant Chhattisgarhis, had gathered the details of 1500 students trapped in Ukraine. It has also been handed over to the government. The organization is also trying to ensure safe return of the children through local agents. For this, arrangements are being made to coordinate with the embassies and arrange for food and water along with buses. Students have created a group on social media, through which they are sharing the updates.
