Exclusive photo exhibition organized to commemorate Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary

Raipur: “Indira Gandhi has always
been a source of inspiration for me. All her contributions towards nation
building are very well presented in the exhibition. Such exhibitions help
citizens to learn new things and know better about our leaders. It also has some
rare photos which we have never seen and this will really help people
especially the youth to know more about our first woman Prime Minister”,
said a Raipur resident Arvind Kumar Sahu who visited an exclusive photo
exhibition set up at Marine Drive by the Public Relations Department,

Friday marks the 104th birth anniversary of country’s
only woman prime minister of India Indira Gandhi. To commemorate the
occasion, the department has set up an exhibition showcasing rare photos of
Iron Lady of India Indira Gandhi. The aim was to make citizens aware about
biography, achievements and major contributions of Indira Gandhi towards nation

Some of her earliest black and white
pictures show Indira with her father and first prime Minister of India Jawaharlal
Nehru. Other photos show Indira with his sons Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi,
and her daughter-in-law Sonia Gandhi. 

Other sections of the exhibition show her major contributions
towards nation building. This includes “Operation Smiling
Buddha”–India’s first successful nuclear bomb test on 18 May, 1974, Bank
Nationalization, Indian space programme, how Indira Gandhi pushed Green
Revolution in India, Pre and Post-Green Revolution,  and her role in
formation of Bangladesh. An outdoor video screen was also put up to show
visuals of her contributions. 

Another Raipur resident who visited the photo exhibition
with his daughter said that his daughter learned about our former Prime
Minister Indira Gandhi through these pictures. “I have been moved by the
exhibition and this will make the new generation, who has not physically seen
her, learn more about her”, he said.

The exhibition witnessed visitors from all walks of life
who opined that the exhibition is having a good impact on current generation.
