Dr. Girish Chandel is the new Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University.

Raipur. Governor and Chancellor Anusuiya Uikey has appointed Dr. Girish Chandel, Head of the Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur as the Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University.

This appointment has been made in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 14 of the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Act, 1987 (No. 20 of 1987). An order in this regard was issued today.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Girish Chandel is an eminent plant breeder and biotechnology scientist of the country. Dr. Chandel, a native of village – Kukra Chunda, Simga, Hathband, Chhattisgarh, has 30 years of experience in agricultural education, research and extension management, with 07 years of experience in state-of-the-art infrastructure especially for drought and nutrition research.

Dr. Chandel has vast experience of R&D work at international level. He holds a Ph.D. at the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and has worked as a visiting scientist at the International Rice Research Institute.
