Juneja met the wives of the assistant constables at the Police Head Quarter
(PHQ), Nava Raipur. He listened to the demands made by them and took the memorandum
of the representatives of the police family.
Juneja assured them
that every possible effort will be made to fulfill their demands. DGP also offered
the police families have food with him. After the assurance from the DGP, women
will now return from Nava Raipur to Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada districts. All
these women were protesting in Raipur since Monday.
On Tuesday morning, the
wives of assistant constables created a ruckus in Nava Raipur. On Monday as
well, the women were brought to the temporary jail built in Sapre School after
protests in Nava Raipur earlier in the day and had to spend the night in the
same campus too. All the women wanted to meet the state DGP Ashok Juneja. No
senior officer of the police department came to meet these women. These wives
of assistant constables were forced to spend the night with small children among
the dirt and mosquitoes.
All these women had
reached Raipur from cities like Bastar, Raigarh, and Bilaspur. The women are demanding
removal of salary discrepancy of their and they should be given regular jobs in
the police department. Besides, rules of retirement-pension and compassionate
appointment should be implemented.
Ujjwal Diwan, who is
leading the protest along with these women, said that if the police keep
someone in their custody, then they also arrange for their food and drink.
There are women and small children here, but the administration did not paid
any attention.
