Raipur. The Chief Minister’s Suposhan Abhiyan underway in Chhattisgarh is getting great success. As per Department of Women and Child Development data, the malnutrition rate in the state from 2016 to 2022 has decreased.

Due to this, the rate of child malnutrition has fallen from 30.13 per cent to just 19.86 per cent. The reduction in malnutrition rate in the state by about 10.27 per cent is a remarkable achievement. In Chhattisgarh, one lakh 70 thousand children have become malnutrition free due to the Chief Minister’s campaign, which started on October 2, 2019.

The women and child development department takes the weight of all the children in a particular period and determines the nutritional level through the festival of weights. In July 2021, the department weighed about 22 lakh children in 10 days and ascertained malnutrition results. The State Government ensures that external agencies verify the data as well.

According to the National Survey Agency data, the malnutrition rate has dropped in Chhattisgarh. The national average for malnutrition is 32.1 per cent, while in Chhattisgarh, malnutrition is 31.3 per cent. Thus malnutrition in Chhattisgarh is less than the national average. It is noteworthy that according to the National Survey Agency National Family Health Survey-4 year 2015-16, the rate of malnutrition in Chhattisgarh was 37.7 per cent, while the national average rate, at that time, was 35.8 per cent.

According to the survey report of NFHS-5, the malnutrition rate in Chhattisgarh has dropped by 6.4 per cent to 31.3. Malnutrition level among children in Chhattisgarh is less than in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Assam, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Bihar etc.
