Chief Minister’s Slum Health Scheme provides free treatment to the poor.

Raipur. In the last 11 months, the Mukhyamantri Slum Health Scheme has benefitted more than 9 lakh people, which provided free treatment to the poor around their homes and to make life healthy. The mobile medical unit operated under the scheme serves as a hospital in disadvantaged settlements. The increasing influx of MMUs in the slums and the timely camps motivate the poor and needy families to get medical treatment immediately when they become ill.

     Under Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Urban Administration Minister Dr Shivkumar Dahariya, more than 9 lakh 32 thousand patients got treatment through this scheme, which started in 14 municipal corporations on November 1, 2020. Meena Harpal, Sushila Devangan and Sangeeta Yadav, who got treatment here, say that the mobile medical unit is no less than a hospital. In this, there is a system of medicines, lab tests including, doctors. We have got our treatment done at MMU-Clinic many times when we fall ill. When we come here, it seems that we have come to some hospital or clinic near our home.

So far, about 15 thousand 166 camps have been set up in slum areas through 60 mobile medical units in 14 municipal corporations. Under the Chief Minister’s Urban Slum Health Scheme, more than 9 lakh 32 thousand 253 patients received treatment from mobile medical units. Medicines have been distributed to 7 lakh 86 thousand 334 patients in 11 months under the Chief Minister Urban Slum Health Scheme.

The Chief Minister’s Slum Health Scheme is the first such scheme in the country in which all the staff are women. Due to this, women can get their treatment without any hesitation.

Considering the popularity and health benefits of the Mobile Medical Unit, which has made its mark as a hospital for the people living in the slum areas, preparations for its expansion are complete. At present, sixty mobile medical units are operating in 14 municipal corporation areas. In the first phase, 15 mobile medical units in Raipur, 8 in Korba, Bilaspur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Raigad, Jagdalpur, 4 in Ambikapur, 3 in Bhilai, and two each in Risali, Bhilai Charoda, Dhamtari, Birgaon, Chirmiri. In the second phase, district wise 155 bodies have also been prepared to benefit from this scheme and to operate 60 new mobile medical units.

For the treatment of any disease, doctors usually recommend tests like blood or urine. Patients have to spend money on this type of investigation. Keeping these problems in view, the Government of Chhattisgarh has also arranged for free lab tests in the Mobile Medical Unit. The facility is also available in the camp. Forty-one types of different lab tests are done through MMU. These include blood, stool-urine, sputum, tuberculosis, thyroid, malaria, typhoid etc. They also have a blood-pressure measuring machine, sugar test machine, ECG machine, oxygen cylinder etc.
