Raipur. Chhattisgarh’s Food Minister, Amarjeet Bhagat, attended the National Meeting of Food Ministers in New Delhi. The topic of the meeting was the smooth operation of ‘Community Kitchen’. During this, Minister Amarjeet Bhagat gave detailed information regarding the Chhattisgarh Public Distribution System, the operation system of fair price shops. He also informed the Union Minister about the concept of Model PDS in Chhattisgarh. He said that by ensuring that all essential items for the kitchen are sold and stored under one roof through fair price shops, consumers will easily get their daily use items at subsidized rates. Union Food Minister Piyush Goyal presided over the meeting of Food Ministers.
Minister Amarjeet Bhagat told the Union Food Minister that the Government of India has consented to supply 2.14 lakh bales of jute gunny bags to Chhattisgarh for paddy purchase, out of which they have received only 1.31 lakh bales so far. One crore five lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured in Chhattisgarh this year, against which 37 lakh metric tonnes more paddy has been procured till December 21 in the state. He asked to make available the remaining 83 thousand bales of gunny bags before December 31, through the Jute Commissioner, for smooth paddy procurement on support price. He informed that many rice varieties in Chhattisgarh are not suitable for Arva milling. 416 Usna mills are operating in the state, whose milling capacity is essential for the disposal of paddy. The Government of Chhattisgarh sent a proposal to procure 23 lakh tonnes of Usna rice through the Food Corporation of India in the Kharif marketing year 2021-22 to the Government of India. He requested the Union Minister to take Usna rice from the state of Chhattisgarh.
Food Minister Amarjeet Bhagat told Union Minister Piyush Goyal that problems might arise, due to the limited supply of new jute gunny bags, for custom milling of paddy and depositing rice in the Food Corporation of India.
