Chhattisgarh govt urges union govt to increase labor budget of the current financial year 2021-22
Raipur:
Chhattisgarh government has urged the union government to increase the labor
budget of the current financial year 2021-22 in the view of rapid pace of works
being done under MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee
Act) in Chhattisgarh.
MGNREGA
commissioner Mohammad Kaiser Abdulhaq has written a letter in this regard to
Government of India as per the instructions of Panchayat and Rural Development
Minister TS Singh Deo. It has been stated in the letter that few district of
the state have generated excess employment in the current month itself against
the set target while some districts are very close to achieve the set target in
this month itself.
Abdulhaq
has urged Union Ministry of Rural Development to approve an additional labor
budget of 2.39 lakh human-days. At the beginning of the financial year, a labor
budget of 13.50 crore human-days was approved by the central government for
Chhattisgarh. If the state’s proposal is cleared, the revised labor budget for
this year will be 15.89 crore human-days.
Against
the sanctioned 13.50 crore man-days for the current financial year under MNREGA
in the state, employment of more than 9.15 crore man-days has been generated so
far. Based on the man-days created in the months of January, February and March
in the last financial year 2020-21, there is a possibility of creating about 15.89
crore man-days of employment at the end of this financial year. Keeping this in
view, a proposal to increase the labor budget has been sent by the State
Government to the Union Ministry of Rural Development to provide adequate
employment opportunities in the villages.
