An alarming increase of 12.15 per cent in road accidents and 24.87 per cent in
deaths due to road accidents have been reported in Chhattisgarh.
Director General of Police RK Vij and AIG Traffic Sanjay Sharma reviewed the Integrated
Road Accident Database along with action on road accidents, violation of
traffic rules, and enforcement in different districts.
the review, it was revealed that over 4,066 persons died and 7,898 persons were
injured in 9,288 road accidents in the first nine months. Besides, in the month
of September itself, 370 persons died and 848 were injured in 988 road
accidents. In Raipur district over 350 people died and 950 were injured in 1269
road accidents in the first nine months.
accidents that caused maximum 47.11 per cent of deaths occurred from 03 PM to 09
PM. National Highways 28.57 per cent, state highways 19.58 per cent, and
district main roads and other roads have 51.83 per cent of the fatal road
accidents. In these accidents, 69.34 per cent of motorcyclists, 13.05 per cent
pedestrians, 4.88 per cent car, jeep riders, 3.73 per cent tractor riders and
3.31 per cent cycle riders have lost their lives.
60.12 per cent of accidents were due to speeding, 12.42 per cent due to negligence, and other fatal road accidents due to intoxication, wrong direction driving,
use of mobile, cattle in the road etc. In the first nine months, an alarming
increase of 12.15 per cent in road accidents, 24.87 per cent in deaths, and 5.53
per cent in injured has been shown.
