Arrest of suspended IPS G P Singh possible as HC set for final hearing on Nov 10

Raipur: The Sword of Damocles
hanging over suspended Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) G P Singh
as High Court of Chhattisgarh is set to conduct final hearing of his case on
November 10, 2021. The suspended IPS is facing charges of sedition and
accumulating disproportionate assets. It is to be mentioned, Supreme Court has
lifted the ban on the arrest of the IPS Officer six days back and made a strong
comment while denying relief. The Supreme Court has granted permission of 8
weeks for the hearing of the case in the High Court.

A businessman had
lodged an FIR with Smruti Nagar Police station of Bhilai two months back. The
FIR read that the IPS Officer had demanded Rs 1 crore by threatening to
implicate him in a false case. The businessman gave away Rs 20 lakh and the
matter was said to have happened in 2015-16. The police had registered a case
under IPC 388 and other Sections in the matter. After this, G P Singh filed a
petition in the High Court seeking a stay on the action.

The court had ordered
a stay

The hearing of this
case is being done by a single bench of Justice N K Vyas who ordered a stay on
the action giving the suspended IPS officer a major relief. Earlier, a case of
disproportionate assets and sedition was registered against him by the Raipur
Police. G P Singh had also filed a petition in the High Court regarding this
matter. In these cases, he did not get relief from the High Court. After this
GP Singh moved the Supreme Court.

Files of old case reopen

In the year 2013, a
youth named Durlabh Kumar Agrawal, who lived in Devendra Nagar, Raipur had
complained that the then Raipur SP, O P Pal, and DSP Archana Jha had assaulted
him. This case was closed by G P Singh without investigation. Special D G Ashok
Juneja will now investigate this case.

In 2016, G P Singh was
the Durg IG while Naxalite leader Pahar Singh surrendered. During the ACB raids,
accounts of crores of rupees were found from Pahar Singh. It was learned that
the money found with Pahar Singh was kept with some businessmen, but G P Singh
had intimidated them by taking money from those businessmen. The investigation
in this matter will be done by the Durg IG Vivekananda Sinha.

Social activist Manjit
Kaur Bal complained that GP Singh had tried to save Kamalakant Tiwari, an
accused in some criminal cases. Raipur Range IG Anand Chhabra will investigate
the matter.

A glimpse of action so
far taken on GP Singh and property found in the raids

ACB-EOW teams conducted
simultaneous raids in Raipur, Rajnandgaon, and Odisha at 6 am on July 1.

FIR was lodged against
GP Singh. On the second day on Friday, after a day-long investigation, movable
and immovable assets worth Rs 5 crore surfaced. Official information was given
about getting assets of Rs 10 crores and more.

GP Singh has also been
accused of assaulting a youth in Raipur, exchanging money with a Naxal
commander who surrendered in Bhilai, helping an accused in a case in Raipur. These
old file cases are being reopened.

Amidst all these cases,
on July 5, the state government suspended ADG GP Singh.
