Action must be taken in compliance with NGT instructions for solid waste management: Chief Secy

Raipur: Chief Secretary
Amitabh Jain has given instructions to the departmental officers to follow the
instructions of the National Green Tribunal for solid waste management. At a
meeting in Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan, presided by Chief Secretary, enquired
about current action being taken under Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 in the
state with officers of the Urban-Administration Department, Panchayat and Rural
Development, Water Resources, Industry and Environment Protection Board.
Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister, Subrat Sahoo and Additional Chief
Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development Department Renu G Pillai were
present in the meeting.

The Chief Secretary has
instructed the officers to send the information about solid waste collection,
segregation, treatment and drainage in the urban bodies and Panchayats of the
state to the Chhattisgarh Environment Protection Board within the stipulated
time. The Chief Secretary directed the officers of the Panchayat and Rural
Development Department to take necessary action to implement the provisions of
Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 in all the Panchayats of the state. In the
meeting, the action taken regarding the polluted water treatment plants
operating in Chhattisgarh and the under-construction domestic water treatment
plants was also reviewed.

He enquired about the
district level task force meeting and its work to implement the instructions of
the NGT. He also enquired from the concerned officers to prepare a detailed
report about the necessary action taken regarding solid waste management,
sewerage management and maintenance of minimum e-flow in the identified rivers.
In the meeting held through video conferencing, Manoj Pingua, Principal
Secretary, Forest and Industries Department, Anbalagan P. Secretary, Water
Resources Department, Alarmel Mangai D., Secretary, Urban Administration
Development Department and officers of Chhattisgarh Environment Board were
present.
