3006 Gauthans of the state have become self-sufficient, Cow dung worth Rs 13 crore 18 lakh purchased so far

The Gauthans built
under the ‘Suraji Gaon Yojana’—one of the flagship schemes of the Government of
Chhattisgarh—are rapidly heading towards becoming self-sufficient. As many as
3006 Gauthans have become self-supporting in the state so far. These
self-supporting Gauthans have now started procuring cow dung using their own
funds under the Godhan Nyay Yojana. Cow dung worth Rs 13.18 crore 18 has been
purchased so far.

The number of
self-supporting Gauthans is more than one third of the number of Gauthans built
and operated in the state. As many as 8366 Gauthans have built and operated in
the state. Raigarh district has the highest number of self-sufficient gauthans
i.e. 279, while Rajnandgaon ranks second with the 221 self-supporting Gauthans
and Janjgir-Champa district has the third highest number of self-sufficient
gauthans i.e. 190.

According to the
information received from the Agriculture Department, 26 Gauthans in Gariyaband
district, 130 in Dhamtari, 101 in Balodabazar, 170 in Mahasamund, 85 in Raipur
district, 141 in Kabirdham, 185 in Durg, 67 in Balod, 78 in Bemetara, 175 in
Korba, 28 in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, 101 in Bilaspur, 82 in Mungeli, 121 in
Korea, 75 in Jashpur, 80 in Balrampur, 105 in Surguja, 94 in Surajpur, 144 in
Kanker, 80 in Kondagaon, 64 in Dantewada, 7 in Narayanpur, 102 in Bastar, 23 in
Bijapur and 52 in Sukma district have become self-supporting.

It is worth mentioning
that in order to promote the conservation and promotion of livestock in the
state, the state government has so far approved the construction of Gauthan in
around 10,591 villages. Out of which the construction of 8,366 Gauthans has
been completed. Purchase of cow dung, manufacturing of vermi compost and other
income-generating activities are being conducted in these Gauthans. At present,
construction work of 1750 Gauthans are being done at a rapid pace and the work
of construction of remaining 475 Gauthans is yet to be started. Arrangements of
quality fodder, care, treatment, and water for livestock have been ensured in
the Gauthans.
