Youth makes policy recommendations to policy makers and industry moguls

 

Raipur: Adolescents and young people inChhattisgarh submitted a set of policy recommendations to policy makers, industry experts and academicians here today. The youth stressed the importance of a curriculum to suit the emerging markets and promote state-specific fine arts, performing arts and handicrafts.

 

The policy recommendations are a result of an extensive series of youth consultations that were organized by Yuwa Shakti, a platform set up by UNICEF. The recommendations focus on the overall growth of the young people and the need for an enabling environment that helps to build their careers.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Vikas Upadhyay, MLA and Parliamentary Secretary, Department of Home said youth are the problemsolving cohort and play a pivotal role in addressing socio-economic issues. Kuldeep Singh Juneja, MLA encouraged youth to avail various platforms and avenues to pursue careers of their interest. 

 

Jeetendra Mudaliar, Chairman of the Youth Commission said that youth are integral part of the government’s development model. Youth is key to positive change across the world. He reiterated the need to equip youth with the skills required to make the transition from school to job.

Job Zachariah, Chief of UNICEF in Chhattisgarh said that youth can play a powerful role to bring social change in families and communities, which would promote nutrition,  health, education and protection of children. Stating that UNICEF works with one lakh youth in Chhattisgarh through  ‘Blue brigade’, ‘Yuvoday’ and ‘Seekh’, he said that UNICEF aims to build life skills of youth, improve their employability and provide career guidance. “UNICEF will also help to reach the voices and views of the youth” he added. 

 

During the session on Skilling Youth of Chhattisgarh, Mr Anand Singhania, MD, Avinash Group, asked youth to treat your startups like a mother treats her children and  encouraged youth to take up internships in business institutions. Dr Jawahar Surisetti, Educationist, Dr Satyendra Patnaik, Head of Innovation Incubator, Amity Raipur briefed young people on the importance of skills for better employability and career counselling.
