Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh in two phases on November 7 and 17

Raipur Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases. The first phase will take place on November 7, and the second phase will take place on November 17, with results to be declared on December 3. In this way, the state will have a new government 55 days from now. In the first phase, voting will take place on 20 seats, including 12 from the Bastar region and 8 from the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency. In the second phase, voting will take place on the remaining 70 seats. In the first phase, 13 assembly seats are reserved. Among them, apart from the Jagdalpur seat in the Bastar region, all the other 11 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The Dongargarh seat is also reserved for Scheduled Castes, and the Mohla-Manpur seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. In the first phase, the BJP has announced candidates for five seats, while the Congress has not yet announced candidates anywhere. The BJP’s candidates include Maniram Kashyap from Bastar, Aasharam Netam from Kanker, Sanjeev Saha from Mohla-Manpur, Vikrant Singh from Khairagarh, and Geeta Ghasee Sahu from Khujji. Elections are happening earlier this time compared to the last time. Last time, the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on October 6, 2018, and elections were held on November 12 and November 20. The results were announced on December 11. The swearing-in took place on December 17. Last time, it took a total of 66 days after the Model Code of Conduct for the new government to be formed. This time, it will take 55 days. The Chhattisgarh Election Commission has called a press conference at 4:30 PM, including five states, to announce the election dates. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the dates in Delhi and said that individuals with a criminal background must provide their information in newspapers three times. Political parties also need to inform that there were no other options available besides giving tickets to such candidates. He mentioned that Chhattisgarh has a total of 2.03 crore voters. Among them, 1.01 crore are male voters, while 1.02 crore are female voters. There are 18.68 lakh voters aged 18 to 22. In the last election, Congress won 68 seats, marking a significant victory after 15 years, while the BJP was reduced to 15 seats. In Bhainsa, Marwahi, Chitrakoot, Dantewada, and Khairagarh, five by-elections were held. Out of these, two were already held by Congress MLAs: Deepak Baij in Chitrakoot and Manoj Mandavi in Bhainsa. Ajit Jogi of the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC-J) and Devvrat Singh Jogi of the Congress were the MLAs in Marwahi and Khairagarh, respectively. Both of them passed away. In Dantewada, the BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi also passed away. Five by-elections were held, and Congress won all of them, increasing their tally from 68 to 71. After the by-elections, the BJP had 14 seats. The Vaishali Nagar seat is vacant after the demise of Vidhyaratan Bhasin. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has two seats. \Youth voters increased by 9.17% In the state, there are 7,23,771 voters between the ages of 18 and 19 who will vote for the first time. This constitutes 9.17% of the total voters. The number of first-time voters aged 18 to 22 is 18,68,636. \Male voters are 49.7%, and female voters are 50.29%. In the Legislative Assembly elections, a total of 2,03,60,240 voters will choose the new government. In terms of numbers, women have overtaken men in the voter count. There are 1,003 male voters and 1,012 female voters.
