Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel questions BJP on rice procurement, Slams BJP for action against journalists in Delhi

Raipur In response to Enforcement Directorate (ED) action against journalists in Delhi, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has directed his criticism toward the Narendra Modi government. He expressed deep concern over the actions taken against journalists who either report impartial news or engage in criticism, labeling it as authoritarian behavior. Baghel emphasized that the journalists, who convey their opinions through their writings, are being unjustly incarcerated, constituting a direct assault on democracy. He accused the NDA government of making continuous efforts to suppress opposition leaders since its inception. The Chief Minister highlighted that Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and West Bengal are now also being targeted to silence opposition voices after Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, with the intention of eradicating any form of opposition. However, opposition is an integral part of a democratic system, and attempts to imprison and stifle opposition leaders are indicative of authoritarianism. Baghel reaffirmed the nation’s strong democratic roots, asserting that the demise of extremism is inevitable. During the launch of a Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur’s ‘Bhu-Pay’ App launch ceremony, Baghel asserted that the BJP had exploited Adani’s resources extensively but was prevented from doing so in Chhattisgarh. At present, one of their mines has been forced to shut down. Specifically, the Baladila mine, number 13, has been terminated. While the BJP had its sights set on multiple mines, Chhattisgarh chose to establish an elephant corridor instead. Baghel challenged Anurag Thakur, stating that if he possesses the courage, he should also address the matter concerning Adani. Responding to the BJP’s allegations concerning rice procurement, Baghel countered by exposing what he called the biggest falsehood. He questioned the BJP’s claims of procuring rice and urged them to reveal when they pressed the button. Drawing a parallel, he mentioned that like the government in Chhattisgarh, which presses the button every three months, facilitating direct transfer of funds to farmers’ accounts, the BJP should clarify whether rice payments are made instantly. Baghel also called on them to disclose their budget allocation for this purpose, along with details about past and future payments.
