Election Commission of India announces Assembly Election 2022 Dates, Schedule for 5 States
All voting staff should be fully vaccinated, said CEC Sushil Chandra, adding that they would be considered as key workers and provided the COVID-19 vaccine dose.
The Election Commission of India on January 8 announced the dates of the upcoming Assembly elections 2022 in five poll-bound states, namely, Punjab, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, and Uttarakhand. The poll schedule and dates were announced by Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra along with ECs Anup Chandra Pandey and Rajiv Kumar.

The election will be completed in seven phases and first will begin from 10 February. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.

Rules and Regulation for Assembly Election 2022 – Election Commission of India
- No street shows, padyatras, bicycle or bicycle shows and processions will be allowed until the 15th of January; status to be reviewed and new directives to be issued later: CEC Sushil Chandra
- All electoral officers and staff will be regarded as the best staff and all eligible officers will be vaccinated with ‘vigilance capacity’.
- All polling stations will be equipped with Covid reduction facilities including sanitisers and masks; the number of booths has increased.
- Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into effect immediately from the announcement of schedules. The Electoral Commission has developed detailed plans to ensure the successful implementation of the MCC guidelines. Any violation of these guidelines will be dealt with strictly.
- Our cVIGIL application should be used by voters to report any incident of violation of the Model Code of Conduct, the distribution of funds and freebies. Within 100 minutes of the complaint, ECI officials will arrive at the scene of the crime.
- EVMs and VVPATs will be used in all polling stations. The Electoral Commission has already made arrangements to ensure a sufficient number of EVMs and VVPATs for the conduct of the elections.
- It is incumbent upon political parties to upload to their website detailed information about pending criminal candidates who have been selected as candidates. They will also have to give a reason for choosing a candidate: CEC Sushil Chandra
- More than 18 million voters, including more than 8.5 million women, will be eligible to vote in five constituencies.

The year 2022 will also see Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat go to the polls. The election will be a major test for the ruling BJP, in government in four of the five provinces that will vote in the next few months.
New challenges such as the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the UP and Trinamool Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa will try to do the best against governance in these provinces.
