Bilaspur. Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (Central University), Professor Alok Kumar Chakrawal, met Honorable Arjun Munda, Minister of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, on November 28, 2022, in Delhi. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chakrawal honoured Arjun Munda by presenting him with a bouquet.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Chakrawal discussed that Guru Ghasidas Central University is the only Central University making active and positive efforts for the upliftment of the tribal region and its inhabitants in the state of Chhattisgarh. The Vice-Chancellor informed the Honorable Minister that Guru Ghasidas Central University is leading a cluster effort with IGNTU Amarkantak, Central University of Odisha, and the Central University of Jharkhand to preserve the tribal community’s languages, culture, knowledge, tradition, and folk arts. The Department of Anthropology and Tribal Development, the Department of Rural Technology and the Department of Social Work have been working through various projects focusing on the integrated socio-economic development of the Tribals.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Chakrawal also discussed in detail the book edited on Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the pride of the tribal in the Indian freedom fighting movement. He said that on the occasion of the 147th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the second Tribal Pride Week was successfully organized. Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s life gives the message of courage and high moral values.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Chakrawal gave information about the books the university is preparing on the tribal heroes of the Indian freedom-fighting movement. The University is running the “Center for Integrated Community Empowerment and Sustainable Development through Training of Scheduled Tribes in Chhattisgarh” project, which provides residential facilities to tribal students preparing for various national and state-level competitive examinations.
Honourable Arjun Munda, Minister of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, expressed happiness over the continuous progress of Guru Ghasidas Central University. He hoped that based on the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 and the work being done in tribal development, the University will become the leader in academics, research and other extra-curricular activities in the coming years.
