The Thomas Cup-winning team of India sent a signed badminton kit to the chief minister Bhupesh Baghel as a gift. The kit includes a badminton racket and bag signed by the Indian badminton players. Badminton Association of India secretary Sanjay Mishra paid a courtesy call to chief minister here today at his residence office and presented him the kit. Chief Minister happily accepted the gift sent by the Indian team and sent his best wishes to the latter. He said that the players have rewritten history by winning the Thomas Cup. India has won the biggest international badminton tournament, Thomas Cup, for the first time in 73 years.
The International Badminton Challenge Tournament will be held in Chhattisgarh: CM granted permission for the same
During his meeting with the Chief Minister, Mishra decided to organize the International Badminton Tournament in Chhattisgarh this year. The probable dates for the tournament will be between 20-25 September 2022. He requested the chief minister’s assistance in organizing the tournament. He added that this tournament will help in placing Chhattisgarh on the map of global sports and will also increase the chances of the state of hosting reputed international sports events. The Chief Minister granted his permission for the organization of the event and assured him to extend every possible help. He also urged the Chief Minister to build a Badminton Academy in Chhattisgarh. Baghel had announced the opening of a badminton academy in Chhattisgarh last year in September. Mishra said that after the opening of a badminton academy in the state, the Indian Badminton Association will provide superior badminton coaching at the national and international levels to Chhattisgarh’s players. Moreover, it will also open doors for the operation of National Training Centers for badminton in Chhattisgarh. The chief minister gave instructions to the officers for speeding up the process of opening a Badminton Academy in the state.

The Thomas Cup-winning players who had their signatures on the badminton kit presented to the chief minister included Sarvashri Kidambi Shrikant, Lakshya Sen, H.S. Pranoy, Chirag Shetty, Satvik Sairaj, Priyanshu Rajawat, Dhruv Kapila, Krishna Prasad, Vishnu Vardhan, M.R. Arjun, along with the famous international player of India, Gopichand.
On this occasion, Sports and Youth Welfare director Shweta Shrivastav Sinha, Chhattisgarh Badminton Association treasurer Sanjay Bhansali and badminton players of Chhattisgarh including Hiral Chauhan, Tanu Chandra, Raunak Chauhan, international hockey player Neeta Doomre, Saba Anjum, and weightlifter Rustam Sarang were also present.
