New doors of employment opened for Premdas with irrigation well construction

Raipur: New doors of employment have opened for Premdas and his family through the irrigation well constructed in his backyard under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The water available in the well is solving the problem of drinking water and at the same time, it is also useful for planting vegetables in the kitchen garden.

Earlier Premdas, a resident of Gram Panchayat Kharve, used to face a lot of difficulties due to the shortage of water. “In my kitchen garden, only a nominal amount of greens and vegetables could be grown, which were utilized at home only. But now with the adequate availability of water, I am growing different types of vegetables for commercial purposes.”, he said.

Premdas has been registered and working under the MNREGA scheme. His main income source is the daily wages received from it. However, after seeing the well being constructed in surrounding areas, he also decided to get a well constructed in his kitchen garden, but couldn’t due to financial constraints.

Later, he got approval for the construction of an irrigation well under MNREGA. Village employment assistant said that in the financial year 2018-19, the work of construction of an irrigation well in the name of Premdas has approved under the MNREGA scheme at a cost of Rs 2.17 lakh. During this, 717 human days of employment have also been created.
