Chhattisgarh sets record in depositing custom milling rice, completes 91 per cent of the set target

Raipur: Chhattisgarh has made a record in depositing custom milling rice in the central pool. Against the given target of depositing 65.21 lakh metric tonnes of rice in the central pool in Chhattisgarh, 59.39 lakh metric tonnes of rice have been deposited in the central pool as CMR till September 9. This is the first time that Chhattisgarh has given the record quota of rice to FCI and Civil Supplies Corporation by doing custom milling and paddy procurement simultaneously on a war footing. This has been possible due to farmer-friendly policies and visionary decisions of the Chhattisgarh government.

A well-managed system of paddy procurement, custom milling and depositing rice in the central pool has reduced the loss of paddy in the state. MARKFED has gained Rs 8,000 crore due to the timely deposit of CMR rice in huge amounts in the central pool this year as compared to the previous year and has also saved Rs.100 crore of interest after repayment of the bank loan. Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has congratulated the departmental officers for the record-breaking success of custom milling and depositing rice in the central pool in the form of CMR in the state.

In the Kharif year 2021-22, Chhattisgarh has created a new record in lifting paddy from the committees and depositing rice in the central pool. As on 9 September, 59.39 lakh metric tonnes of rice have been deposited by the millers in FCI and municipal corporations. Only 5.82 lakh metric tonnes of rice are yet to be deposited in CMR. 97.30 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have been supplied to the millers of the state for custom milling, against which the millers have to deposit 65.25 lakh metric tonnes of rice. CMR’s target of depositing rice is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Food secretary Topeshwar Verma informed that in the Kharif marketing year 2021-22, a record 97.99 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured at the support price. The lifting of paddy for custom milling was completed even before the onset of rains for the first time in the state. Record lifting of paddy by the millers directly from the procurement centres has made a significant reduction in the transportation expenditure, drying of paddy and also the cost of protection and maintenance of paddy as compared to the previous years.
