Chhattisgarh govt taking special initiatives to promote sports in state

Raipur: With a motto of “Kehlbo, Jeetbo, Gadhbo Nava Chhattisgarh”, Chhattisgarh government is making consistent efforts to promote sports and to improve sports infrastructure in the state. Concrete steps are being taken to provide adequate facilities to the sportspersons. In keeping with this spirit, the state government constituted Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority and started work of establishing state-of-the-art sport academies in Raipur, Bilaspur and Narayanpur.

Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority

Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority has been constituted for the operation of all sports academies, development and proper use of sports infrastructure and overall development of sports in the state. Meetings of the Governing Body and Executive Body of the Authority have also been held to discuss other issues related to promotion of sports. Along with this, the process of contractual recruitment on 08 posts of sports coaches has been completed. Presently 15 sports federations are recognized by the department. A grant amount of Rs 1.43 crore has also been released in the financial year 2021-22. Similarly, an amount of Rs 40.17 lakh has been released for the construction of gymnasium in the financial year 2021-22.

Operation of Residential Sports Academy

For the first time after the formation of Chhattisgarh State, the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare has started the operation of residential sports academy. Late BR Yadav residential academy for hockey, archery and athletics has been established at Bahatrai in Bilaspur, which has been recognized by the Sports Authority of India as Khelo India State Center of Excellence. Manpower High Performance Manager, Head Coach Hockey, Strength and Conditioning Expert, Physiotherapist, Young Professional and Massager (Female) have been appointed for the Excellence Center.

Establishment of non-residential sports academy as well

In Chhattisgarh, special attention is being paid by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department to provide quality training to the sports persons, so that the players of the state can perform better and win medals. The target is to set up non-residential sports academies of various sports in each district of the state. Presently Archery Training Sub-Centre Shivtarai (Bilaspur), Non-Residential Hockey and Archery Academy, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Hockey Stadium Raipur, Non-Residential Girls Football Academy Swami Vivekananda Stadium Kota Raipur, Non-Residential Boys and Girls Athletic Academy Swami Vivekananda Stadium Kota Raipur is being operated in the state.

Seven small sports centers will be established

As many as seven small centers have been sanctioned for various sports under the Khelo India scheme of the Government of India, with the efforts of the state government. In this, approval has been received for hockey in Jashpur, archery in Bijapur, hockey in Rajnandgaon, volleyball in Gariyaband, Malkhamb in Narayanpur, football in Surguja and archery in Bilaspur. A total amount of Rs 49 lakh (Rs 7 lakh each) has been released to the respective district collectors for each small centre. Local senior players will also be provided employment as a coach through this initiative.

Formation of Rajiv Yuva Mitan Club

Rajiv Yuva Mitan Club scheme was started with an objective of realizing the vision of ‘Garhbo Nava Chhattisgarh’ by harnessing the potential of youth in development of the state. A total of 13269 Rajiv Yuva Mitan Clubs have been set up in each gram panchayat and wards of urban bodies of the state. A total of 9917 Yuva Mitan Clubs have been formed so far. There is a provision of providing Rs 25,000 quarterly per club. In the financial year 2021-22, Rs 33.325 crore has been released to the districts.
