Chhattisgarh continues to be one of the leading states with lowest unemployment rate, logs unemployment rate of 0.4 per cent in August this year

Raipur: Chhattisgarh is leading among the states having the lowest unemployment rate for the past several months. In the last 3.5 years, the Chhattisgarh government has undertaken several meaningful initiatives and formulated new policies to generate new employment opportunities and balance the urban-rural economy. 

Chhattisgarh logged an unemployment rate of 0.4 per cent in August this year. Meanwhile, India’s unemployment rate was 8.3 per cent. Chhattisgarh’s unemployment rate stood at 0.8 per cent in July while 0.7 per cent in the month of May. The unemployment rate in Chhattisgarh was the lowest at 0.6 per cent in the month of March-April.

According to the latest data released by CMIE, the unemployment rate in Bihar in the month of August stood at 12.8 per cent while that of Goa at 13.7 per cent, Gujarat at 2.6 per cent, Haryana at 37.3 per cent, Himachal Pradesh at 7.3 per cent, Jammu Kashmir at 32.8 per cent, Karnataka at 3.5 per cent and Madhya Pradesh at 2.6 per cent. 

Soon after coming to power, the Chhattisgarh government led by chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen the economy of the state. Special focus was given on formulating policies to create new employment opportunities in the state. For starters, steps like farm loan waiver and increasing the minimum support price of paddy were taken. Following this other ambitious schemes like Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana, Godhan Nyay Yojana, Suraji Gaon Yojana, Narva-Garva-Ghurva-Badi, and Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Bhumiheen Kisan Nyay Yojana were launched. 

Besides, other meaningful steps like formulation of a New Industrial Policy, a better system for collection of forest and agricultural produce, local processing and value addition of minor forest produce, the establishment of rural industrial parks, hike in minor forest produce collection rate, and purchase of 65 types of minor forest produce at support price, agriculture status to fisheries and lac production and establishment of C-Mart in all districts were also taken by the state government to promote job creation.
